United Airlines Plans to Expand Fleet with 250 New Aircraft by 2028
United Airlines announces a significant fleet expansion with the addition of 250 new aircraft by 2028, including modern aircraft like the Coastliner Airbus A321neo.
United Airlines has announced an ambitious plan to add over 250 new aircraft to its fleet by April 2028, marking the largest expansion by any airline within a two-year period. This initiative aims to modernize United’s fleet, introduce new aircraft variants, and enhance the customer experience with premium offerings.
The airline’s new additions include the Coastliner Airbus A321neo, which will operate between Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Newark later this summer. This aircraft will feature United Polaris business class seats with all-aisle access and lie-flat options, a first for United’s domestic travelers. Additionally, the Airbus A321XLR will replace Boeing 757s on routes to smaller cities in Europe and South America, offering 32 premium seats.
United’s regional service will see the introduction of the CRJ450, connecting smaller cities to Denver and Chicago hubs starting this autumn. This premium regional jet will boast a spacious United First cabin. Furthermore, the new 787-9 with the Elevated interior will commence international flights on April 22, featuring United Polaris Studio suites and the highest count of premium seats in United’s fleet.
Since 2021, United has significantly grown its fleet, adding 22 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, 237 Boeing 737 MAX, and 67 Airbus A321neos. The airline has increased premium seats per North American departure by 40% and recruited over 60,000 new employees. United CEO Scott Kirby stated, “We accelerate our plans and elevate our offerings to the next level, creating an even more consistent premium onboard experience.”
This expansion represents United’s commitment to delivering high-quality service across all flying categories, aiming to set a new benchmark in the aviation sector.
