Klook Sees Shift in Filipino Travel Preferences Amid Global Changes
The online travel platform Klook has observed a notable rise in outbound travel from the Philippines, despite ongoing global challenges.
The Philippine branch of Klook, a popular travel platform, announced insights from its 2026 Travel Pulse report during a media event in Bonifacio Global City, Manila, on March 25.
Ulla Roqueza, the platform’s associate marketing director, opened the presentation with a summary of achievements from 2025, highlighting the launch of the Klook Travel Card in partnership with GCash, a Philippines-based digital payment service.
“This initiative aimed not only to enhance user experience during pre-booking but also for in-destination activities, allowing transactions at various stores in other countries without service fees for cash withdrawals,” stated Roqueza.
Details on Klook’s collaboration with the Philippine Department of Tourism (DOT) were emphasized, including the establishment of a Tourist Rest Area in Camarines Sur and the launch of its inaugural airport lounge at Clark International Airport. Moreover, they supported the DOT’s Philippine Experience Programme to boost domestic tourism and promote digital advancements in the sector.
Key findings from 2025 reveal market growth for Klook Philippines at 50.7%, domestic business increased by 39.7%, and a substantial 127% growth in their hotel offering due to the launch of Klook Hotels. It was reported that 71% of Filipino travelers preferred local destinations last year, with top spots including Boracay, Cavite, Cebu, Manila, and Pampanga. Regarding international travel, interest surged particularly for Thailand (67.1% increase), Taiwan (124.4%), and Vietnam (193%).
According to Michelle Ho, General Manager: “Social media has greatly influenced our customers’ itinerary choices, particularly concerning travel to Vietnam, a trend that has grown significantly over the past year and a half. Social media accelerates our customers’ interest in seeking unique experiences, and simplifies travel planning.”
Klook’s Travel Pulse also outlined the four main considerations for Filipino travelers:
- Staying budget-conscious regarding airfare and lodging, although they tend to spend generously on dining and activities.
- The pursuit of impactful experiences during their travels.
- Making shared memories with friends, family, or colleagues.
- Simplifying arrangements for bookings, visa processing, and local transportation.
Looking ahead, Klook highlighted four trends anticipated to shape traveler behavior in 2026:
- An emphasis on affordability and maximizing travel experiences.
- Preference for nearby destinations within Southeast Asia and regions with significant Filipino populations due to current geopolitical uncertainties.
- An increase in group-oriented trips focused on shared experiences.
- The integration of social media with AI to enhance personalized travel planning, merging popular travel spots with custom itineraries.
