Akasa Air Collaborates with Travelport to Enhance Global Distribution
Akasa Air has entered a distribution agreement with Travelport to broaden its reach through the latter's travel agent network.
Akasa Air, recognized as India’s fastest-growing airline, has formed its first ever distribution agreement with the global technology firm Travelport to enhance its global outreach through Travelport’s comprehensive network of travel agents. This deal, which was announced on February 26, 2026, positions Travelport as Akasa’s initial global distribution system (GDS), showcasing the airline’s trust in Travelport’s capabilities.
The agreement will enable the worldwide distribution of Akasa Air’s flights, offers, and services, aligning with the airline’s ambitious growth strategy. Sagar Naik, Akasa Air’s Vice President of Commercial and Sales, remarked, “Selecting our first global travel retailing platform was crucial for Akasa’s growth and expansion endeavors; however, the ultimate choice was straightforward thanks to Travelport’s strong presence in India and beyond.”
In addition, Travelport’s platform, Travelport+, promises Akasa Air a modern retailing solution intended for travel agents, aiming to unveil new avenues for the airline to enhance its ancillary revenue streams. Damian Hickey, Global Head of Air Partners at Travelport, shared his excitement, stating, “We’re honored that Akasa has chosen Travelport to be its inaugural GDS partner.”
This strategic partnership is a vital aspect of Akasa Air’s prediction to rank among the top 30 airlines globally by the close of this decade. Since its debut in August 2022, the airline has catered to more than 20 million passengers and currently operates 30 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, linking 24 domestic and six international destinations.
