Krabi Enhances Thailand's Appeal with Second Love on Screen Film Festival
The Love on Screen Film Festival in Krabi supports the Amazing Location Thailand campaign, showcasing the region as a premier film destination.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) supported the recently concluded Love on Screen Film Festival SS 2 in Krabi Province.
The event took place at Chamchuri Lawn, Krabi Maritime Resort from February 21st to 22nd. This festival is a part of TAT’s Amazing Location Thailand the Story Continues project, promoting Thailand as a recognized film destination while reinforcing the Kingdom’s Soft Power strategy. The festival also contributes to Krabi’s aim to join the UNESCO Creative Cities Network as a City of Film.
Where filmmaking changes minds
Under its core themes of film industry development, the art of love, and sustainability, the festival featured open-air screenings, the Krabi International Film Festival short film competition, master classes, and seminars. All activities were aligned with sustainable principles to minimize environmental impact while boosting the local economy through creative tourism.
The festival also served as a training platform for youth and aspiring media professionals, covering topics such as Idea for Content, Basics of Acting, and Film 101. In addition, the program featured discussions on Jurassic World Rebirth: Why Krabi? and the future of film education.
The culmination of the event included screenings and awards for eight shortlisted films, providing opportunities for local entrepreneurs to showcase their products, thereby enhancing Krabi’s creative ecosystem.
Why the festival matters
Film tourism is pivotal for attracting high-quality travelers, extending their stay, and distributing income within local communities. Krabi’s stunning landscapes, such as coastlines, limestone mountains, and rich cultural heritage, have drawn major international productions like Jurassic World: Rebirth, Fast and Furious 9, and Alien: Earth. These projects generate substantial revenue for local hotels, restaurants, and tourism services.
The Love on Screen Film Festival embodies TAT’s commitment to enhancing Thailand’s Soft Power through its Amazing Location Thailand the Story Continues initiative. By combining film tourism with creative, wellness, gastronomy, and sustainable tourism under the New Thailand vision, TAT aims to solidify Thailand’s global reputation as a premier film location, driving quality growth and supporting local communities.
Under the Amazing Location Thailand campaign, TAT is also rolling out a comprehensive communication plan to elevate Thailand as a world-class film destination, producing promotional content and engaging in collaborations with global media and film markets.
