SriLankan Airlines Expands Connectivity to India

SriLankan Airlines enhances its India service with the introduction of Ahmedabad, increasing its presence in six of India's eight major cities.

SriLankan Airlines has announced its plan to enhance weekly services to India throughout the year. The current routes already cover key cities like Chennai, Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Kochi, Trivandrum, Madurai, and Tiruchirappalli, and now Ahmedabad will also be included.

The airline is focusing on both major urban centers and emerging markets across India, extending its reach to less served areas. With the inclusion of Ahmedabad, SriLankan Airlines will serve six of India’s eight main metropolitan hubs, broadening its portfolio in India and optimizing route economics leveraging strong demand and cultural connections between the two nations.

These strategies are projected to boost Indian passenger traffic by as much as 12% across the airline’s network this year.

SriLankan is strategically positioned to cater to Indian travelers for various purposes, including tourism, business, and special events like weddings. Approximately 30% of Indian passengers transit through Colombo, with the airline offering seamless connections to various destinations in the Middle East, the Maldives, Europe, and Australia.

In collaboration with local tourism authorities, SriLankan Airlines supports national tourism initiatives aimed at highlighting Sri Lanka’s appeal to Indian visitors, showcasing its rich offerings in culture, cuisine, wellness, nature, and spiritual experiences.

Most recently, SriLankan launched the acclaimed Ramayana Trail campaign, an emotional storytelling initiative designed to encourage Indian tourists to discover significant sites along the epic’s legendary path in Sri Lanka.
