South African Tourism Enhances Connection with Indian Market

South African Tourism wraps up a successful roadshow in Kolkata, engaging Indian travel agents and promoting new opportunities.

South African Tourism has effectively concluded its Kolkata leg of the Annual India Roadshow, engaging over 220 Indian travel trade agents. Led by Mitalee Karmarkar, the Marketing and Communications Manager (MEISEA), the event included more than 40 exhibitors and served as a significant platform for collaboration and insights into the evolving behavior of travelers. The aim of the roadshow is to uncover new business opportunities across various sectors, including leisure, corporate, and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions).

This initiative highlights India’s growing importance as a primary source market for South Africa. Karmarkar emphasized, “India continues to be a priority growth market for South African Tourism, motivated by strong interest across family travel, experiential holidays, and premium travel.” She pointed out the shifting dynamics in Indian traveler behavior, showcasing a growing readiness to explore destinations beyond conventional favorites.

Kolkata is recognized as a strategically vital market, with travelers expressing a strong desire for culturally rich and experience-focused travel. The roadshow intends to deepen connections with Kolkata’s travel industry and boost South Africa’s presence in this market. South African Tourism is dedicated to aligning its offerings with the changing preferences of travelers, aiming for increased travel depth and repeat visits from the region.

Following this, the roadshow will proceed to Delhi on February 12, 2026, continuing its efforts to strengthen trade partnerships and encourage travel from India to South Africa. The country aims to regain pre-COVID levels of Indian tourist arrivals by 2026, especially with the upcoming hosting of the 2027 ODI World Cup, which will offer ample opportunities to showcase its diverse attractions.
