Virgin Atlantic Introduces New Carbon Charges for Passengers in the UK

Virgin Atlantic has announced a new carbon surcharge on flights from the UK, which will add £8 to economy tickets, £12 to premium tickets, and £24 to upper-class tickets.

Virgin Atlantic has elevated ticket prices by implementing a carbon surcharge on flights departing from the UK starting January 1, 2025. Passengers booking economy tickets will pay an additional £8, those in Premium will face a £12 charge, while upper-class travelers will incur a £24 surcharge. This move is part of the airline’s efforts to address increasing operational costs associated with the transition to net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Virgin Atlantic stated: “We’ve introduced a carbon surcharge on all flights from the UK from January 1, 2025, to help meet the increasing operational costs to the airline as part of the transition to Net Zero 2050. This includes the UK SAF Mandate and CORSIA offset costs.”
