IndiGo Introduces Non-Stop Flights Between India and Greece
IndiGo's new direct flights connect Mumbai and Athens, enhancing travel options for passengers in India and Greece.
IndiGo has launched non-stop flights connecting Mumbai, India, and Athens, Greece, marking a historic first for an Indian airline to establish direct connectivity between both nations. The service commenced on January 23, 2026, using India’s inaugural Airbus A321XLR aircraft. Starting January 24, the airline will also link Athens with Delhi and plans to extend its services to additional destinations in Greece.
The newly introduced routes will operate three times a week, granting Greek passengers access to India’s major metropolitan areas alongside IndiGo’s vast network throughout Asia. This initiative is complemented by a codeshare agreement with AEGEAN, the largest airline in Greece, which allows IndiGo to expand coverage to over ten European destinations, including Italy, Spain, and Bulgaria. In return, AEGEAN customers can access more than ten destinations across IndiGo’s routes from both Delhi and Mumbai.
Athens has become a favored location for Indian tourists and is expected to generate increased demand for leisure travel, as well as MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) and wedding tourism. Pieter Elbers, CEO of IndiGo, shared his excitement regarding the new route, stating, “Athens is a very special destination for IndiGo as the first international route operated on India’s first A321XLR aircraft and makes IndiGo India’s first carrier offering direct flights between India and Greece.”
Additionally, Yiannis Paraschis, CEO of Athens International Airport, emphasized the importance of this development as a key milestone for tourism and enhancing economic relations between India and Greece. The A321XLR aircraft comes equipped with a dual-class configuration, serving complimentary meals and providing a digital inflight entertainment experience, all aimed at improving traveler comfort on this route.
