Insights into APAC Travel Trends for 2026 Revealed by Web in Travel

Asia's travel landscape is evolving with emerging trends including the adoption of AI and growth of secondary cities, as highlighted by Web in Travel.

Web in Travel (WiT) has pinpointed five significant trends forecasting the trajectory of travel in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region for 2026. These insights were underscored by Editor-in-Chief Siew Hoon Yeoh, who emphasized the escalating integration of AI, the growing prominence of secondary cities, and the increasing demand for value-oriented travel experiences.

  1. AI Integration: The use of AI for travel planning is on the rise, with projections estimating that 63% of active travelers in key APAC markets will utilize AI tools for travel-related activities by 2026. This technology is enhancing itinerary formulation, real-time translation, and personalized suggestions, encapsulating a shift towards hyper-personalized services.

  2. Emerging Secondary Cities: Destinations like Fukuoka and Denpasar are gaining popularity, surpassing traditional travel hotspots. It’s reported that 35% of Asian travelers are looking to explore domestic travel options in 2026.

  3. Experience-led Demand: There’s a notable inclination towards experience-driven travel, with culinary, cultural, and entertainment events fueling interest. Events such as Tomorrowland in Thailand and various K-pop tours are anticipated to stimulate intra-regional travel.

  4. Value and Affordability: A significant 39% of travelers prioritize affordability, with 73% seeking accommodations priced below $100 (USD) per night. This trend is promoting more frequent, albeit shorter, travel excursions.

  5. Enhanced Accessibility: Continuous improvements in flight services, relaxed visa regulations, and seamless digital payment systems are rendering the APAC region increasingly accessible. The region is set to receive over 600 new aircrafts by 2026, granting enhanced connectivity across various locales.

Yeoh remarked, “APAC continues to be the most dynamic travel region in the world. While AI will transform travel planning, the rise of secondary cities, the quest for meaningful experiences, and the commitment to affordability and accessibility are equally critical.” To further promote these developments, WiT plans events in Japan, Singapore, and New Zealand throughout 2026 to unite influential leaders in the travel industry.
