Preferred Hotels & Resorts Reveals Travel Trends for 2026

Preferred Hotels & Resorts, recognized as the world’s largest independent hotel brand, has unveiled the premier travel trends for 2026, emphasizing a transition towards more personalized and unique experiences. These trends encompass ultra-luxury sports activities, cognitive wellness initiatives, and boutique seacationing, reflecting the changing desires of modern travelers.

The organization manages over 625 properties across more than 80 countries, actively setting the pace for these emerging trends. Among its offerings is the “Live Like A Legend” experience at The Post Oak Hotel in Houston, which provides basketball enthusiasts with luxurious accommodations featuring courtside seats and helicopter transportation. Meanwhile, The Leela Palace in Jaipur invites guests to partake in Indian polo with VIP privileges and traditional spa treatments.

The appetite for heritage travel is also on the rise, as 90% of luxury travelers express a desire for historical experiences. New hotel establishments such as Serras Sevilla in Spain and Romègas Hotel in Malta are revitalizing architectural wonders to blend traditional charm with modern amenities.

Cognitive wellness is another focal point, with retreats integrating innovative medical approaches like DNA testing and IV therapies. The Amrit Ocean Resort in Florida provides state-of-the-art treatments, while Sommerro in Oslo boasts a specialized Sleep Clinic aimed at enhancing rest.

The movement towards “breaking free from the beige” encourages hotels to embrace distinctiveness. Properties such as Kasbah Tamadot in Morocco and Dusit Thani in Bangkok provide rich cultural experiences, opposing the typical uniformity seen in luxury hospitality.

The definition of pet-friendly travel has also evolved, with hotels like Nemacolin in Pennsylvania offering comprehensive services for pets. Furthermore, The Mark in New York has collaborated with Dolce & Gabbana on a premium dog fragrance.

These new trends will be showcased during Independent Hotel Week, scheduled for January 26–30, 2026, celebrating the innovation and authenticity of independent hotels worldwide.
