Flight operations also saw an uptick of 3%, totaling 337,000 takeoffs and landings. The surge in passenger numbers was driven largely by enhanced European and intercontinental travel, with a 4.3% increase in European routes and an impressive 8.5% in long-haul travels. The airport expanded its network to 232 destinations within Germany and 71 other countries, accommodating 96 airlines, inclusive of five cargo carriers.
Despite facing operational challenges such as bad weather and drone interruptions, Munich Airport achieved a punctuality rate exceeding 75%, earning its status as one of Europe’s top three major hubs for reliable flight schedules. New security protocols, including advanced CT scanners, improved passenger screening efficiency, enabling 95% of travelers to pass through security in less than ten minutes.
Jost Lammers, CEO of Munich Airport, emphasized the airport’s pivotal economic role in Bavaria, stating:
“Munich Airport is growing dynamically and consistently expanding its services. This means that our hub remains an important junction for our passengers.”
As modernization continues, Munich Airport is set to play an integral part in boosting the region’s economic landscape.
