
Garuda Aerospace Launches New Drone Battery Facility in Chennai
Garuda Aerospace, with support from cricket star MS Dhoni, inaugurated a new Drone Battery Manufacturing Facility in Chennai on January 7, 2026. This significant event was attended by Faiz Ahmed Kidwai, the Director General of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), emphasizing the firm’s dedication to enhancing India’s autonomous drone technology sector. The launch coincided with the Bharat Drone Udaan event hosted by the Bharat Drone Association.
The facility is designed to boost the production of drone batteries, essential for the fast-growing drone industry. During the event, Kidwai presented the ‘Garuda Bharat Drone Udaan Impact Book’, which documents Garuda Aerospace’s contributions to the Make in India initiative. The book highlights the influence of drone technology in sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure, and emergency management.
Agnishwar Jayaprakash, the Founder and Director of Garuda Aerospace, noted the firm’s decade-long journey, stating, “We have manufactured over 3,000 drones and trained more than 2,500 drone pilots.” He underscored the importance of government support in enabling the company’s growth and commitment to local manufacturing.
Kidwai acknowledged Garuda Aerospace’s contributions, stating, “The range of drones produced here is not just advantageous for our armed forces, but also supports farmers and various industries.” He reiterated the significance of domestic manufacturing in enhancing the country’s drone capabilities.
The inauguration of the facility and impact report represents crucial steps forward in Garuda Aerospace’s goal to foster a self-sufficient drone ecosystem, aligning with India’s expanding drone economy.
