Jowai Launches Event for Meghalaya Games 2025

The curtain raiser for the 6th Meghalaya Games 2025 took place in Jowai, featuring the launch of the games' logo and an introduction of the theme song and mascot.

The curtain raiser for the 6th Meghalaya Games, 2025, was conducted at the District Auditorium, Jowai. Organized by the Department of Sports and Youth Affairs, the event showcased the logo launch of the Games by Shri Shakliar Warjri, the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, along with the video and theme song “Niom Beit Naphang” and the official mascot, U Kiang, inspired by the clouded leopard, Meghalaya’s state animal.

The Games are scheduled from January 20th to January 25th, 2025, featuring 25 sports and 4 demonstration events, engaging 3500 participants and 500 officials competing for approximately 1600 medals across various venues in Jowai and West Jaintia Hills, with some events located in Shillong.

In his address, Warjri emphasized the importance of an annual Meghalaya Games for advancing sports and the youth’s interests. He stated, “The Meghalaya Games provide our youths and athletes with a platform and we aim to bring this event to every district of our state.”

Wailadmiki Shylla, MLA of Jowai, commented on the Games’ potential to elevate sports enthusiasm in the region. Furthermore, John F. Kharshiing, expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister and the Government for their support in promoting sports in Meghalaya, urging participants to embrace the opportunity with passion and integrity.

With the beginning of the countdown to the Games, anticipation is building among citizens and athletes for a week filled with thrilling sports action.
