Insights from BE @ Penang 2025: Embracing Change in Business Events

The recent BE @ Penang 2025 conference drew to a close on December 12th, held at the Setia SPICE Convention Centre in Pulau Pinang, Malaysia. This year’s edition presented a range of innovative ideas aimed not just at current professionals in the business events sector but also at the upcoming talent poised to join the industry in the near future.

Topics discussed ranged from the necessity for greater inclusivity and accessibility in events to the essential training of the next generation of industry professionals, along with considerations for the wellbeing of those practicing in the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) sector.

We extend our gratitude to the Penang Convention and Exhibitions Bureau (PCEB) for allowing us the opportunity to witness these enlightening discussions.

Training is Key Both for the Current and Future Generations

Adrian Praveen’s talk highlighted the importance of equipping hotel staff with people skills to enhance guest satisfaction. However, many organizations prioritize technical skills over essential training in customer relations and courtesy.

Emphasizing people skills in education can nurture professionals who are empathetic and committed to serving others.

Accessibility is Good for Business

The conference featured Beatrice Leong, an advocate for accessibility, who discussed the importance of making businesses accessible for every individual, particularly those on the autism spectrum, like herself. She provided critical insights on the necessity for businesses to cater to diverse needs to foster inclusion and participation in events.

Use Technologies to Your Advantage

Dr. Bona Nahyun Lee discussed how businesses can leverage artificial intelligence (AI) to streamline administrative tasks, freeing event professionals to focus on creative solutions for impactful events.

Safeguarding Mental and Physical Health

Neuropsychiatrist Dr. Prem Kumar Chandrasekaran pointed out the high-stress levels in the MICE industry, advocating for a healthier work-life balance among professionals to prevent burnout.

The Future is Collaborative

An interactive session led by Daniel Gonzaga encouraged participants to collaborate on solutions for the industry’s challenges, reinforcing the need for teamwork over competition.

Overall, BE @ Penang 2025 positioned itself as a pivotal gathering for those in the MICE sector and emphasized the necessity of embracing change and innovation.
