Sydney Opera House Celebrates the Year of the Snake

The Sydney Opera House unveils a vibrant program of events for Lunar New Year, welcoming the Year of the Snake.

The Sydney Opera House presents a variety of activities to mark the Lunar New Year and welcome the Year of the Snake.

Lunar New Year celebrations at the Opera House attract up to 25,000 visitors, showcasing cultural events that entertain and educate.

This year’s program features:

  • Asian Language Tours: Running daily throughout the Lunar New Year, these tours in Mandarin, Korean, and Japanese highlight the architectural significance of the Opera House.
  • Lunar New Year Dinner: On February 7, Luke Nguyen will host a unique dinner merging modern Australian and traditional Vietnamese cuisines in the Concert Hall Northern Foyer.
  • Lion Dancing at House Canteen: Scheduled from January 29 to February 16, House Canteen will host lion dancing alongside pan-Asian food and drink specials.
  • Special Menu at Midden by Mark Olive: From January 29 to February 4, celebrate with a specially curated menu inspired by the Year of the Snake at Midden.
  • Lunar New Year Performances: Expect various international performances from January 28 to February 12, featuring groups like the Hong Kong String Orchestra and the Sydney Chinese Orchestra.
  • Limited-Edition Lunar New Year Coin: The Opera House retail store will offer an exclusive Lunar New Year coin and embossed red envelope for purchase.
