Zayed National Museum Opens to the Public in Abu Dhabi

The Zayed National Museum, the national museum of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the centerpiece of Saadiyat Cultural District, officially opened its doors to the public today. This museum offers a comprehensive exploration of the UAE’s history, from its earliest human settlements to the civilizations that have shaped its culture.

Designed as a cultural bridge uniting the seven emirates, this museum reflects the profound legacy of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the UAE’s Founding Father.

The museum houses over 1,500 artifacts across six permanent galleries, showcasing a blend of archaeological findings, audiovisual experiences, and contemporary art installations. Starting at Al Masar Garden, the visitor experience includes exhibitions focused on Sheikh Zayed’s life, the nation’s natural landscapes, and the extensive history of human activity in the UAE, highlighting discoveries from the last 300,000 years. Together, these exhibits illustrate how aspects such as geography, innovation, and cultural exchange have shaped Emirati identity.

Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak stated that the museum: “demonstrates the unifying power of our history and our culture, providing a space where citizens, residents, and visitors can recognize their place in the narrative of our people and land.”

The museum’s opening also marks a significant cultural milestone for the UAE, coinciding with recent openings such as teamLab Phenomena Abu Dhabi and the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi, as well as the reopening of Al Ain Museum.

Month-long Opening Programme

In celebration of its opening, the Zayed National Museum has planned a series of performances and cultural events until the end of December, themed ‘Deep Roots and Everlasting Legacy’. This initiative invites the public to engage with the museum’s heritage through music, dance, and storytelling.

Activities include traditional dances, immersive experiences, and workshops on crafts inspired by the museum’s collections. Additionally, the museum’s retail shop, Al Nagwa Boutique, features unique gifts and souvenirs, while dining options include Erth Restaurant and Al Ghaf Café.
