A significant decrease in train delays has been reported in various states of India, improving travel experiences for passengers in 2024.

Train passengers across India experienced improved journey timings nationally in 2024, although some routes and regions still face challenges. The insights derived from data compiled from train passengers using the RailYatri platform show a notable reduction in delays nationwide. The average train delays faced dropped by nearly 8% in 2024 compared to 2023, with median delays decreasing from 20 minutes to 18 minutes.

Passengers in states like Uttarakhand, Punjab, and Gujarat have enjoyed significant reductions in delays, with improvements ranging from 16% to 32% in 2024.

  • Punjab: 20% reduction in delays. (Avg: 42 mins, Median: 15 mins)
