Modon Holding Acquires La Zagaleta, A Premier European Residential Community
The Emirati group Modon Holding, based in Abu Dhabi, has completed the acquisition of La Zagaleta, one of the most prestigious luxury developments in Europe, located in Benahavís, Málaga. This strategic move marks the group’s entry into the European real estate market, as stated in an official company announcement.
La Zagaleta spans an area of 900 hectares featuring over 400 luxury villas and plots, two golf courses, clubhouses, an equestrian center, sports facilities, and its own private helipad. The development also includes land designated for a luxury hotel, adding to the over 300 homes already constructed. In total, the site amounts to 2.7 million square meters, establishing La Zagaleta as a reference point for exclusive living on the Costa del Sol.
International Expansion Strategy
The acquisition of La Zagaleta is part of Modon Holding’s strategy to expand its international presence and develop high-end real estate projects. Jassem Mohammed Bu Ataba Al Zaabi, President of Modon Holding, emphasized that this operation is “a significant milestone” in their global growth plans. He stated, “La Zagaleta is considered one of the most prestigious and exclusive private developments in the world, and this acquisition reinforces our vision of developing new opportunities for large-scale luxury housing.”
Executive President Ignacio Pérez highlighted that the success of the development lies in its “strong commitment to quality in every detail,” providing residents with an unparalleled experience of luxury, security, and privacy.
The operation also encompasses the Majarambuz project, historically known as Valderrama II, located near Sotogrande. This project, which includes a land reserve of 2.2 million square meters, will be developed under the same principles of low density, sustainability, and respect for the environment that characterize La Zagaleta.
Majarambuz plans to feature a unique golf course in Europe designed by Tom Doak, with 18 or 27 championship-level holes. Additionally, it will offer equestrian facilities for international tournaments like the World Equestrian Games, 60 single-family villas on plots ranging from 1,200 to 2,000 square meters, luxury condos, and a 120-room hotel with branded residences.
History and Evolution of La Zagaleta
Originally a hunting estate owned by Saudi businessman Adnan Khashoggi, La Zagaleta was transformed into a luxury development in 1991 by a group of investors led by Spanish banker Enrique Pérez Flores. Since then, it has maintained its commitment to exclusivity, privacy, and sustainability, becoming a global benchmark in the luxury real estate market.
Modon Holding: A Real Estate Giant
Modon Holding is a public company listed on the ADX Growth Market, with its main shareholders being ADQ and IHC Group. With this acquisition, the group reinforces its position as one of the leading players in the development of high-end real estate projects globally.
This operation marks a new chapter for La Zagaleta, which will continue to solidify its reputation as a prime destination for luxury living while expanding its influence into other exclusive regions of Spain.
