The Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport has achieved a remarkable record by hitting 25 million passengers in a single year—an accomplishment never documented before within an annual timeframe. This new record underscores the dynamic growth and upward trajectory of air traffic at the airport, which has been setting records since the beginning of 2025, fueled by both domestic and international traffic.
Members of the entire airport community celebrated this milestone with a group photo and a commemorative poster in the arrivals hall. Those present included Aena workers, airline personnel, ground assistance companies, commercial and catering tenants, as well as state security forces and other groups involved daily in operations and services at the facility. Passengers in the area also joined the celebration, enjoying a tasting of the traditional Málaga “locas” pastries, specially made to celebrate the occasion.
The vice president of the traffic management committee and representatives from the airport community noted that this milestone is, beyond a mere number, a reflection of the ongoing confidence airlines have in the province’s potential and the strength of Málaga’s offering as a hub for national and international travelers. According to these voices, growth continues to thrive thanks to a combination of connectivity, quality service, and infrastructure that adapts to the changing needs of passengers and operators.
This surge in traffic aligns with the management entity’s strategy to solidify Málaga as a key entry point to southern Spain. In this regard, Aena’s commitment to modernizing and expanding the infrastructure is reflected in the investment plan for 2027-2031, known as DORA, which includes an investment of 1.5 billion euros for the most ambitious expansion project of the Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport since the inauguration of Terminal 3 in 2010.
Authorities emphasize that the expansion and improvement of services aim not only to address passenger growth but also to enhance the travel experience, operational efficiency, and the capacity to serve airlines of various scales and business models. Planned actions include improvements in arrival and departure areas, increased baggage handling capacity, and optimization of security and immigration control processes, aiming to consolidate Málaga as a strategic hub in regional connectivity and connections to international destinations.
With this historic achievement, Málaga-Costa del Sol concludes a period of sustained growth that had already anticipated a year-end marked by records. Authorities and the airport community express their confidence that 2025 will continue to solidify Málaga’s role as an entry point for tourists and businesses, strengthening Costa del Sol’s position as a key destination in Spain and the Mediterranean region.
