IATA Reports 6.6% Rise in Passenger Demand for October 2025

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced a significant increase in global passenger demand for October 2025, highlighting strong recovery trends in various regions.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) released its October 2025 global passenger demand report on Friday, 28th November.

According to the report, total demand, measured in revenue passenger kilometers (RPK), increased by 6.6% compared to October 2024. Capacity, measured in available seat kilometers (ASK), rose by 5.8% year-on-year, while the October load factor stood at 84.6%.

International demand grew by 8.5% compared to October of last year, and capacity was up 7.1%, maintaining a load factor of 84.6%. Domestic passenger demand also showed an increase, with a 3.4% rise from October 2024, capacity up by 3.6%, and load factor at 84.6%.

Key Insights from Willie Walsh

IATA’s Director-General, Willie Walsh, stated: “October was a strong month for air travel with demand up 6.6% on the previous year. The trends for the rest of the year look promising: scheduled seat capacity in November is set to expand by 3.6% and by 4.7% in December. This indicates strong demand for holiday travel.”

  • Asia-Pacific: Airlines achieved a 10.9% year-on-year increase in demand. Capacity increased 9.1%. Traffic to/from China, Japan, and Vietnam saw massive growth.
  • European Carriers: Demand increased by 7.4%, with capacity rising 6.0%.
  • North America: Saw a 4.5% increase in demand and 4.7% growth in capacity.
  • Middle East: Experienced a 10.7% increase in demand fueled by positive growth patterns.
  • Latin America: Airlines registered a 7.2% year-on-year increase in demand.
  • Africa: Demand grew by 7.3%.

Overall, the report indicates a strong recovery with increasing passenger demand as we head towards the end of 2025.
