Riyadh and Dubai Lead the MENA Region with Fastest Hotel Wi-Fi: Ookla Report

A recent study reveals that luxury hotels in Riyadh and Dubai are at the forefront of high-speed internet connectivity in the MENA region.

Recent findings from Ookla, a leader in connectivity intelligence, indicate that luxury hotels in Riyadh and Dubai are leading in establishing high-speed internet connections, marking them as frontrunners in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.

This study analyzed Wi-Fi performance at 22 top-rated five-star hotels over the year, emphasizing the importance of digital connectivity for enhancing guest satisfaction and loyalty.

The report categorized hotels into three tiers based on median download speeds. The best-performing hotels exceeded 100 Mbps, including Four Seasons in Riyadh and Raffles the Palm in Dubai, with speeds up to 154.75 Mbps.

However, over 45% of the properties assessed had speeds below 50 Mbps, which may limit streaming capabilities during peak use.

“To assess Wi-Fi performance, we benchmarked median download speeds inside and around the properties over one year. This allowed us to evaluate network performance and stability,” remarks Karim Yaici.

As the demand for seamless internet access continues to rise post-pandemic, cities like Dubai and Abu Dhabi have significantly upgraded their infrastructure to meet these new expectations.

In closing, Ookla remains committed to enhancing connectivity, offering insights to hospitality managers for optimizing Wi-Fi performance.
