Indonesia Launches AI-Powered Biometric Travel Corridors

Indonesia adopts AI technology to streamline immigration with biometric corridors at major airports, enhancing travel efficiency.

Indonesia Launches AI-Powered Biometric Travel Corridors

Indonesia has made significant strides towards smoother travel experiences with the introduction of AI-driven biometric corridors across its primary airports. Passengers will no longer need to show physical documents while passing through immigration. The system, developed in collaboration with Amadeus and local tech partner Sinergi Teknoglobal Perkasa, is part of the government’s broader “All Indonesia” digital transformation strategy designed to modernize border control and facilitate seamless arrivals.

Launch in Jakarta and Surabaya

The Indonesian immigration authority has set up two biometric corridors at Soekarno–Hatta International Airport in Jakarta and a third one at Juanda International Airport in Surabaya. Initially, these lanes will cater to elderly and disabled travelers before expanding to all passengers throughout the country.

Pre-Travel Identity Verification with the All Indonesia App

Enrollment into the system is handled through the All Indonesia app, which consolidates immigration, customs, health, and quarantine declarations. Travelers can input their passport details and travel information ahead of time, allowing immigration to conduct background checks before arrival at the airport. Once signed up, users can utilize the biometric corridor for a fully contactless journey across borders.

During the 2025 Hajj season, the technology was trialed, successfully processing over 30 passengers per minute in peak times—ten times greater than standard eGates—demonstrating its potential to alleviate airport congestion.

A Benchmark for Hassle-Free Travel

Amadeus describes this initiative as a significant advancement in the aviation sector. Rudy Daniello stated that the Seamless Corridor represents the pinnacle of their airport solutions, calling it a method that could completely remove queues and document checks. Furthermore, Andi Syach emphasized the project’s fusion of global expertise with local ingenuity, which is essential not just for rollout but also for the sustained development of Indonesia’s digital border capabilities.

Currently, while airports like Frankfurt and Dubai have adopted sophisticated screening and biometric systems, Indonesia’s innovative approach signifies a landmark enhancement in airport operations, allowing passengers to walk without presenting any physical documentation.
