Airbus Launches New Technology Hub in South Korea

The establishment of an Airbus Tech Hub aims to enhance collaborative research and innovation in Korea's tech landscape.

Airbus recently announced the opening of its Tech Hub in Daejeon, South Korea on November 18. This new facility will act as a focal point for research and innovation in collaboration with local industry leaders and academic institutions.

Key Highlights:

  • Location: Daejeon, the center of Korea’s R&D sector.
  • Purpose: To enhance collaborative efforts in technology development, including energy technologies and advanced composites.
  • Commitments: In partnership with the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Resources (MOTIR) and Daejeon Metropolitan City for quick innovation.

Agreements:

Airbus signed three Memorandums of Understanding during the launch to support its initiatives:

  1. MOTIR Agreement: Focused on enabling swift project launches in Daejeon’s tech ecosystem.
  2. Daejeon City Agreement: To expedite research efforts in collaboration with the city’s tech landscape.
  3. KITA Agreement: Targeting new technological partnerships through KITA’s open innovation platform.

Among announced partnerships, Airbus will collaborate with LIG Nex1 on communication technology and EMCoretech on developments for electrification applications.

Long-standing Partnership:

Airbus has enjoyed a partnership with Korea for over 50 years, establishing a strong customer base and numerous supply chain collaborations, currently sustaining around 6,000 jobs in Korea.
