Indian Families Embrace 30% Surge in Cold-Weather Travel for Festive Season

A significant rise in winter travel interest has been noted among Indian families as they seek frosty adventures during the upcoming festive holiday season.

As temperatures fall, Indian families are increasingly looking towards icy getaways. Recent findings from Agoda show a 30% year-on-year surge in international family travel interest for the winter season ranging from December 2025 to February 2026, compared to the previous year.

According to Agoda, families are drawn to destinations boasting snow-covered sceneries, festive vibes, and cultural winter experiences. Specifically, countries such as South Korea (+226%), China (+105%), and Kazakhstan (+68%) are witnessing the most significant growth in travel interest from Indian families. Taiwan (+44%) and Japan (+41%) also continue to capture the attention of these travellers.

From South Korea’s ski resorts and winter experiences inspired by K-dramas to China’s ice festivals and historical towns, families are exploring these locales which provide a mix of adventure and cultural immersion. Kazakhstan offers scenic mountain getaways, while Japan attracts visitors with its hot springs and family-friendly attractions such as the Tokyo Disney Resort and Universal Studios Japan. Taiwan’s lantern festivals and lively night markets present an appealing winter escape.

In Europe, the trend mirrors that of Asia, with Austria (+82%) leading, followed by Germany (+43%), Finland (+33%), Italy (+27%), and France (+20%). These locations, renowned for their Christmas markets and skiing options, are becoming preferred choices for families in search of a genuine seasonal experience.

The increasing preference for winter travel corresponds with a shift in Indian family travel habits, as they venture beyond typical beach vacations towards more immersive seasonal experiences. Enhanced air connectivity and easier visa applications facilitate families’ exploration of new destinations. Whether it’s relaxing in Japanese hot springs, skiing in Austria, or celebrating New Year’s in South Korea, Indian families are redefining their winter holiday experiences.

Commenting on the trend, Gaurav Malik, Country Director for the Indian Subcontinent and Indian Ocean Islands at Agoda, noted: “More Indian families are embracing the joy of travel during the winter months. This trend highlights families’ growing desire for experiences that blend togetherness, cultural discovery, and the festive spirit of the holiday season in cold-weather destinations across Asia and Europe. Agoda continues to make these holidays easier to plan, with a wide range of stays, flights, and activities to ensure every family holiday is magical.”
