The new air route enhances travel connectivity between Hunan province and Hong Kong.
Cathay Pacific has inaugurated its direct passenger flights linking Hong Kong and Changsha on November 7. The first flight, CX968, was celebrated with a water salute at Changsha Huanghua International Airport, symbolizing an upgrade in connectivity between Hong Kong and Hunan.
To commemorate the launch, a ceremony was conducted at the airport, featuring dignitaries including:
- Ronald Lam, Cathay Group CEO
- Lavinia Lau, Chief Customer and Commercial Officer
- Arnold Cheng, Director for the Chinese Mainland
- Mandy Ng, Director of Service Delivery.
Among the attendees were important guests like Cui Wusong, Deputy Party Secretary and General Manager, and Zhou Yun, Marketing Director of the Hunan Airport Management Group.
Bridging to the Mainland
Cheng noted that this new connection marks a vital advancement in the airline’s strategy within the Chinese Mainland and is a testament to their deep roots in Hong Kong. He expressed that this service aims to enhance the connectivity between major cities in the Mainland and globally, facilitating smoother travel instances and showcasing Hunan’s vibrant culture.
Cheng stated: “This new service reinforces our role in enhancing connectivity between key cities across the Chinese Mainland and the rest of the world, making travel between Hong Kong, Changsha and beyond more seamless for our customers, while showcasing the vibrancy and rich heritage of Hunan Province.”
On the other hand, Zhou Kans commented: “The direct flights not only streamline travel between Hunan and Hong Kong but also encourage cultural and economic exchanges, providing Hunan travelers with improved transit options to over 100 global destinations.”
Expanding Their Reach
This new service expands the Cathay Group’s network within the Chinese Mainland, covering 24 destinations facilitated by both Cathay Pacific and low-cost subsidiary HK Express. It allows convenient connections through Hong Kong to various destinations worldwide for travelers originating from Changsha.
Cathay Pacific operates this route with the Airbus A321neo aircraft, offering Business and Economy class options, alongside an award-winning in-flight entertainment experience.
