Clark Development Corporation Revives Happening on the Green to Elevate Tourism
The Clark Development Corporation is bringing back the Happening on the Green festival, aiming to celebrate local culture and boost tourism.
As a way to increase tourist traffic in Central Luzon, the Clark Development Corporation (CDC) is set to revive the historic Happening on the Green (HOG) festival. Planned for November 8th and 9th, this two-day lifestyle festival aims to celebrate Clark’s rich cultural heritage while promoting family-oriented tourism and local businesses on the island of Luzon.
In an interview with PTV on October 30, CDC Tourism Promotions Division manager Elenita Lorenzo revealed that the festival will bring back the lively community spirit that characterized Clark during the American Occupation. Lorenzo mentioned, “HOG is a major lifestyle and community festival here in Clark. Since Agnes Devanadera took the helm as CDC president, we have been enhancing our cultural and heritage program with fresh attractions and activities.”
A Fresh Take on Tradition
HOG was initially inspired by an American event held at the Challenger’s Field of the former US airbase, featuring food stalls, live concerts, and community fairs for servicemen and their families. The revamped edition will inject a local twist that emphasizes Filipino family values and cultural pride.
To attract both local and international visitors, the CDC has organized activities that blend nostalgia with modern enjoyment. The first day will showcase a family fun run, a colorful costume parade, brass band and cavalry demonstrations, alongside a barbecue meetup and chili cook-off, paying homage to the original festivities.
The second day will include a grand family picnic, stunning hot air balloon displays, a kite-making competition, and a highly anticipated hotdog-eating contest, which is poised to become a staple of future events.
