An international design competition invites artists to create unique art suites from ice.

Overview

Every year, the ICEHOTEL in northern Sweden comes to life, showcasing creations from talented individuals worldwide. If you’ve ever dreamed of crafting a unique art suite from ice and snow, now is your chance. The international design competition is open for entries, with a deadline set for April 21, 2025.

About ICEHOTEL

ICEHOTEL isn’t merely a hotel; it represents an evolving art project made from ice and snow sourced from the Torne River. Each year, artistic minds breathe new life into the structure, and every design idea is welcome, aiming for creativity that captivates the imagination. The only stipulations are that your design must be original, include a bed, and be constructed from the cold elements of ice and snow.

A Tribute to Nature

As an artistic endeavor, ICEHOTEL pays homage to nature and the Torne River, one of Sweden’s last pristine waterways. Here, artists create masterpieces while offering visitors a unique experience in a world sculpted from ice.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing the ideas that will shape the 36th edition of ICEHOTEL, a project so close to my heart. I’m sure they will be unexpected, challenging, and unique,” says Luca Roncoroni, Creative Director of ICEHOTEL.

Global Collaborations

Throughout its history, many acclaimed designers and artists have participated, including the creative teams Bernadotte & Kylberg and Kauppi & Kauppi. Each artist’s contributions can be seen in the hotel’s design, which melts back into nature at the arrival of spring.

“This morning, I walked along the river and was amazed to think that I was standing on next year’s ICEHOTEL. Soon we’ll begin harvesting the ice for ICEHOTEL 36, and I’m excited to see the creative contributions from talented artists worldwide,” remarks Marie Herrey, CEO of ICEHOTEL.
