Thailand Embraces United Airlines’ New LAX-BKK Flight
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) recently welcomed the inaugural flight from United Airlines connecting Los Angeles to Bangkok on October 26th. This marks a significant milestone, as it is the first service from a US airline to Thailand since 2014.
A ceremonial welcome was held at Suvarnabhumi Airport, featuring a traditional water salute. Numerous dignitaries were in attendance, including:
- US Ambassador to Thailand, Robert F Godec
- TAT Governor, Thapanee Kiatphaibool
- Managing Director for International Sales of United, Marcel Fuchs
- Deputy Director-General of CAAT, Sarun Benjanirat
- Airports of Thailand Advisor, Pranuengnuch Bamphensamai
The inaugural flight, designated UA 820, departed Los Angeles on October 24th and landed in Bangkok the following day. The daily service, which operates with a Boeing 787–9 Dreamliner, aims to bolster travel opportunities between the US West Coast and Asia. TAT’s Governor emphasized that this flight signifies a strengthened bond between Thailand and the US, catering to the increasing number of American travelers looking for enriching experiences in Thailand.
As of late October 2025, America continues to be a vital market for Thai tourism, with expectations for visits to exceed 1 million by year-end.
