The cruise line’s current initiatives are an extension of its long-standing commitment to the spirit of community and maritime excellence

PONANT EXPLORATIONS GROUP is enhancing its initiatives to support the next generation of Australian seafarers.

Since 2014, the company has operated in Australia with a clear mission: to explore differently and support local communities. In 2025, it takes a bold step by partnering with the Australian Maritime College (AMC) to provide essential sea time for cadets aboard its fleet.

In a significant expansion, PONANT EXPLORATIONS GROUP will offer up to thirty placements each year exclusively to AMC students, the only maritime institution in Australia offering a university-level degree.

According to Deb Corbett of PONANT EXPLORATIONS GROUP, “It is often a challenge for Australian cadets to secure sea time. I am incredibly proud of this initiative as we open our fleet to these future maritime professionals. This program extends our ethos beyond travel and gives back meaningfully to the Australian seafaring community.”

AMC’s principal Mal Wise expressed enthusiasm over the opportunity, stating, “The cadetships offered by PONANT are fantastic, providing an opportunity in a modern and safe working environment with an adventurous maritime career.”

Hands-on Training with the Best

The Group’s fleet is equipped to host up to four cadets at a time, providing immersive experiences from day one. Cadets will take on integral crew roles, learning from experienced officers, with many of the Group’s senior staff having started as cadets themselves.

Cadets can apply for deck and engine positions to fulfill their internships across the Group’s environmentally advanced fleet, navigating some of the world’s most remote regions and gaining valuable training.

Operating under the French flag, the Group adheres to high maritime safety, environmental, and social standards, making it not just a sea time clocking opportunity but a launchpad for a world-class career for AMC cadets.
