The Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi) has joined forces with Frieze to revitalize Abu Dhabi Art into Frieze Abu Dhabi, signifying a fresh chapter for the emirate in the global art calendar.
For over 17 years, Abu Dhabi Art has stood as a foundational pillar of the cultural landscape in the region, indicating a significant event on the local calendar. Set against the backdrop of the emirate’s premier museums and dynamic artist residencies, this fair has cultivated a reputation for authenticity, attracting an international audience of art collectors that mirrors Abu Dhabi’s cultural richness and global presence.
The transition to Frieze Abu Dhabi builds on this established legacy, reinforcing a long-term cultural vision while expanding the fair’s outreach through Frieze’s worldwide networks and expertise.
Grounded in its vital role in the capital’s cultural narrative, the fair retains its commitment to discovery, dialogue, and global perspectives. This endeavor marks the inaugural major project under Frieze’s new ownership, reflecting a mutual aspiration to position Abu Dhabi as a hub for culture and creativity while endowing Frieze with a distinct role within the Gulf’s premier art scene.
Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak remarked, “For nearly two decades, Abu Dhabi Art has embodied our philosophy of culture as a catalyst for dialogue, connection, and creativity, sustained by a vibrant community of museums and institutions promoting both seasoned and novice artists. The introduction of Frieze Abu Dhabi is a natural progression of this journey, carrying forward the triumphs of Abu Dhabi Art onto the international stage.”
Simon Fox added, “We are thrilled to collaborate with DCT Abu Dhabi on the launch of Frieze Abu Dhabi. The emirate’s cultural leadership, supported by its world-class infrastructure and dedication to the arts, forms the bedrock of this partnership. Together with Frieze’s global outreach, we can broaden the horizons of the emirate while championing regional artistic practices.”
As Frieze Abu Dhabi, the fair will adopt a unique Frieze approach, featuring new artistic innovations and projects led by artists, offering a platform for the region to engage with the worldwide art community. The first edition of Frieze Abu Dhabi is scheduled for November 2026 at Manarat Al Saadiyat, uniting leading galleries from the Middle East and across the globe. Deutsche Bank, Frieze’s Global Lead Partner, will continue its enduring support of the fair.
The 2025 Abu Dhabi Art will proceed as anticipated in its current form, while the shift to Frieze Abu Dhabi will take effect starting with the 2026 fair, ensuring a seamless transition for participating galleries and audiences.
