The first edition of the Gastro Junior Golf Day at The Westin La Quinta Golf Resort & Spa in Benahavís brings together Michelin-starred chefs and young golf talents.

The Gastro Junior Golf Day took place at The Westin La Quinta Golf Resort & Spa in Benahavís, showcasing a unique blend of high-level gastronomy and youth golf. This inaugural event aimed to educate, share, and appreciate excellence in both realms.

Six Michelin-starred chefs from Málaga province, including José Carlos García, David Olivas, Mario Cachinero, Diego Gallegos, Dani Carnero, and Benito Gómez, participated alongside six rising golf talents from Málaga: Manuela Araujo Guerrero, Máxime Vervaet, Thomas Vervaet, Kianni Guerrero Mena, Valeria Rodríguez, and José Luis Castilla Ruiz. The day was designed for participants to learn from established masters and share their knowledge.

The event, chaired by the mayor of Benahavís, José Antonio Mena, emphasized the importance of supporting young talent in both sports and gastronomy, considering them foundational pillars of the identity of Benahavís. This initiative underscores the community’s commitment to training, excellence, and providing opportunities for the younger generation. The local government aids students with travel and materials while offering a free practice tee for all residents.

The culinary recipes taught included:

  • David Olivas (Back): Roasted avocado with fresh tuna slices and citrus broth.
  • José Carlos García (José Carlos García Restaurante): Baba Ganoush.
  • Dani Carnero (Kaleja): Croque Monsieur.
  • Benito Gómez (Bardal): Salmon kimchi.
  • Diego Gallegos (Sollo): Beet hummus.

Held in a picturesque location, The Westin La Quinta Golf Resort & Spa, surrounded by Sierra Blanca mountains, offers an idyllic backdrop for this unparalleled combination of sport and cuisine, promoting Benahavís as a top destination for those seeking excellence in gastronomy and golf.
