
The Philippine Department of Tourism (DOT) has announced that the recent earthquake which struck Davao Oriental has resulted in minimal impact on tourism sites and facilities.
In an official advisory released soon after the tremor on October 10, the DOT stated that its crisis team had been activated to evaluate the situation and provide necessary support to local authorities.
DOT officials shared:
“Initial reports from Davao Oriental and adjacent provinces indicate no recorded damage to tourism sites or establishments. Local government units, alongside tourism offices, are carrying out inspections and monitoring for any aftershocks or potential secondary dangers such as landslides and infrastructure concerns.”
Ongoing Assessment
The department further noted that evaluations in the CARAGA region are currently underway, specifically in the Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, and Surigao del Sur.
Tourists are advised to exercise caution and adhere to guidelines provided by local authorities and disaster response teams.
The DOT’s advisory warns:
“Avoid entering compromised or potentially dangerous structures and follow safety protocols, particularly in areas prone to landslides. The DOT continues to prioritize the safety and well-being of travelers and those involved in tourism.”
