September Ends with 90.97% Occupancy in Malaga, with Expected Declines in October and November

The hotel occupancy in Malaga reached 90.97% in September, reflecting growth but forecasts suggest a drop for the following months.

The Association of Hotel Entrepreneurs of the Costa del Sol (Aehcos) provided a recap for September, noting a hotel occupancy rate of 90.97%. This is an increase of 2.23 percentage points from the same month in 2024, which recorded 88.74%.

According to the report, 75% of the travelers stayed in September came from international markets, while the remaining 25% were domestic tourists. In economic terms, the Average Gross Impact per Client (IBCA) increased compared to September 2024, reaching 137.17 euros compared to 134.37 euros the previous year, indicating a 2% rise in the economic impact generated.

Geographically, Torremolinos and Fuengirola led the provincial occupancy in September, surpassing 95% (95.89% and 95.28% respectively). Benalmádena also performed strongly with a 94.37% occupancy rate.

José Luque, President of Aehcos, commented on the figures: “The September figures reflect a satisfactory performance, even above last year’s numbers. Additionally, the economic impact underscores our role as a driver for the economic dynamism of the province of Malaga.”

Looking ahead, forecasts indicate a decline in occupancy compared to 2024 figures. Anticipated closures show October expecting a 82.19% occupancy and November at 65.16%. These numbers suggest a decrease of approximately 4.5 points in October and a full point less than November’s 2024 occupancy of 66.21%.

Regarding regional distribution, projections suggest that Benahavís, Marbella, and areas around Frigiliana-Torrox will see the highest occupancy in October, while Fuengirola is expected to have the highest hotel occupancy in November. The increase in September reinforces Malaga’s status as a leading tourist destination, with a diverse market continuing to support the sector’s resilience against seasonal fluctuations. Authorities and businesses are continuously working to maintain provincial competitiveness, emphasizing the quality of offerings, health safety, and unique experiences to attract both international and domestic visitors.
