Sarawak Tourism Board Impresses at CelebrASIA 2025
The Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) successfully showcased the Malaysian province’s rich cultural heritage at CelebrASIA 2025 at the Battersea Power Station in London, UK. This three-day festival, held from 5th to 7th September, transformed one of London’s most iconic venues into a vibrant celebration of Southeast Asian food, culture, and community.
This year’s programme included a riverside Feasting Tent, over 30 Southeast Asian brands in a curated artisan market, and interactive arts and crafts sessions for visitors.
STB provided attendees with immerse experiences through craft workshops, live performances, and an information booth that highlighted the state’s eco-tourism, cultural heritage, and unique travel offerings.
Sharzede Datu Haji Salleh Askor, the chief executive of STB, stated: “Our participation at CelebrASIA 2025 was a wonderful opportunity to share Sarawak’s vibrant culture and heritage with a UK audience. The enthusiasm and engagement from festival visitors, from the workshops to the performances, demonstrates the growing interest in authentic Southeast Asian experiences and reinforces our commitment to promoting Sarawak as a destination that celebrates creativity, diversity, and cultural richness.”
An Exquisite Display of Traditional Crafts
The Sarawak Craft Council showcased traditional crafts, including intricate beadwork and handwoven basketry. Workshops organized by STB were a hit, with sessions on Iban necklace beadwork led by Marek Empang of Pungu Borneo, allowing participants to craft their own necklaces while learning about their significance. The second session was on rattan coaster weaving, guided by artisans from Kunang Studio, demonstrating techniques with natural materials.
The highlight of the weekend was a series of vibrant performances by a talented troupe from the Sarawak Arts Council, who brought the sights and sounds of Sarawak to life.
STB’s presence at CelebrASIA 2025 inspired visitors to explore the Malaysian state in person and discover its arts, crafts, and cultural heritage. Looking forward, STB is set to expand its international footprint by participating in the World Travel Market (WTM) London in November, promoting Sarawak as a unique destination for culture, adventure, and eco-tourism.
