In August, the hotel occupancy in the province of Málaga reached 92.15%, slightly above the 90.89% recorded during the same month in 2024, according to the Costa del Sol Hotel Entrepreneurs Association (Aehcos). This figure highlights the robustness of the Costa del Sol as a premier tourist destination, even amid intense international competition. According to José Luque, President of Aehcos, “this figure demonstrates the stability of our sector and the significant projection of Costa del Sol beyond our borders, while also presenting us with the challenge of continuing to boost national demand, which still has great growth potential.”

Distribution by destinations and origins
In August, Fuengirola was the most visited destination, with an occupancy of 96.32%. This was followed by Benalmádena (95.03%), Torremolinos (94.91%), Málaga city (93.91%), and Mijas (93.57%). In terms of visitor origins, approximately 65% come from the international market, compared to 35% from within Spain. This imbalance underscores the dependency on foreign markets, as well as the need to encourage domestic tourism.
Forecasts for September and October 2025
For September, an occupancy of 87.65% is expected, compared to 88.74% recorded in September 2024. A higher proportion of international visitors is anticipated, with international tourism projected to account for 70% of the total, while domestic tourism is expected to account for 30%. In October, the estimated occupancy is 74.13%, down from 86.70% in October 2024.
The August figure illustrates the resilience and competitiveness of the Costa del Sol as an internationally recognized destination. Despite most demand coming from international clients, the message from the association emphasizes the need to continue developing strategies to stimulate national demand, which is crucial for balancing the tourism cycle and mitigating potential fluctuations in foreign markets.
