Spain Prepare for Davis Cup with Key Players Despite Notable Absences

As the Spanish tennis team gears up for the Davis Cup Qualifiers in Marbella, they are missing star players Carlos Alcaraz and Alejandro Davidovich due to fatigue.

The Spanish MAPFRE tennis team is finalizing its preparations for the second round of the 2025 Davis Cup Qualifiers, scheduled for this weekend in Marbella. The team, led by captain David Ferrer, will feature Jaume Munar, Roberto Carballés, and Pablo Carreño. Additionally, they will be joined by Marcel Granollers, who won the doubles championship at the recent US Open.

However, the team will miss Carlos Alcaraz and Alejandro Davidovich due to muscle fatigue and scheduling conflicts, respectively.

The Spanish squad is set to travel to Marbella on Tuesday for their first training session in the afternoon, under the guidance of their captain David Ferrer. The trio of Munar, Carballés, and Carreño will be leading the match, especially as Munar comes off a successful run to the round of 16 at a Grand Slam for the first time last week in New York and is currently placed in the Top-40 of the ATP rankings (position 37).

With the absence of top players like Alcaraz and Davidovich, the Spanish team aims to overcome Denmark on the clay courts of Marbella, hoping to set sights on the Final 8 in Bologna, set for November. The match days are planned across Saturday (13) and Sunday (14), with the first individual matches scheduled to start at 12:30 PM and the doubles match to follow later on Sunday.
