Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister Discusses Tourism Growth
Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh of Vietnam recently shared key insights into enhancing the nation’s growing tourism sector.
In his address at the High-Level Tourism Forum of ITE HCMC 2025 on September 4, he emphasized the vital role of tourism in contributing to the national economy and promoting a progressive mindset among the Vietnamese populace.
Key Insights
He stated, “Vietnam’s geographical location positions it well for tourism development, supported by its rich cultural heritage, including nine UNESCO World Heritage Sites and 16 intangible heritage elements, alongside vibrant cuisines and hospitable people.”
He highlighted Ho Chi Minh City, noting its vibrant culture and emerging status as a destination for premium tourists.
The Deputy Prime Minister presented six critical strategies for tourism advancement:
- Encourage an ambassadorial mindset among citizens: Every Vietnamese should act as an ambassador to improve the travel experience for foreign visitors.
- Focus on sustainable development: Enhance discussions around infrastructure while prioritizing sustainable practices over mere aesthetic appeals.
- Emphasize urgency in development: In a competitive global market, quick and effective government strategies are crucial for success.
- Involve all sectors in tourism development: Coordination among different fields is necessary for effective tourism offerings.
- Invest in human resources: Training and upskilling are essential for elevating the tourism workforce’s expertise.
- Support Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs): Encouraging local entrepreneurs to enhance the tourist experience is vital.
