Hotel Seiryu Kyoto Kiyomizu Invites Guests to Revive History with Kintsugi Workshop

The Hotel Seiryu Kyoto Kiyomizu presents a unique chance to experience kintsugi, the traditional art of golden repair. A Kyoto-based kintsugi instructor will guide participants in crafting accessories from broken or chipped pottery. This workshop, dedicated to finding beauty in imperfections, will take place on October 28 and 30, as well as November 4 and 6 at the hotel’s library on the second floor.

What is Kintsugi?

Kintsugi is a classic Japanese method for mending ceramics using lacquer and gold powder. Instead of hiding flaws, this technique transforms repaired areas into striking decorations, enhancing the item’s value and beauty. The hotel’s building, once an elementary school, has been preserved to offer luxurious experiences while honoring its history. It embodies the spirit of kintsugi by creating new value while maintaining the essence of the past. The setting thus offers a perfect backdrop to witness the transformation of the old into a beautifully renewed form.
