Korean Air Plans Fleet Expansion with 103 New Boeing Aircraft

Korean Air intends to modernize its fleet, enhancing its operations following the merger with Asiana Airlines.

On August 26, 2025, Korean Air revealed its plan to purchase 103 fuel-efficient aircraft from Boeing. This strategic move aims to modernize its fleet and facilitate growth in light of its complete integration with Asiana Airlines over the upcoming years.

The momentous agreement was finalized during the Korea-U.S. Business Roundtable, focusing on Partnership for a Manufacturing Renaissance. This historic deal marks Korean Air’s largest order to date and establishes Boeing’s most significant widebody order from an Asian carrier.

Walter Cho, Chairman and CEO, noted, ‘>This agreement with our long-standing partners, Boeing and GE, marks a pivotal moment for Korean Air. Acquiring these next-generation aircraft is central to our modernization strategy, enhancing fuel efficiency and passenger experience globally.’

The finalized order will include:

  • 20 777-9s
  • 25 787-10s
  • 50 737-10s
  • 8 777-8 Freighters

In total, Korean Air’s airplane commitments for 2025 exceed 150 units after previous orders made earlier in March. This expansion has prompted Stephanie Pope from Boeing to express, ‘>We are honored to reinforce our partnership with Korean Air through this landmark agreement, underscoring the value of Boeing’s leading airplane family.’
