Dusit International, one of Thailand’s prominent hotel and property development organizations, has broadened its sustainable hospitality vision by managing Tantawan Tented Camp, a refined getaway that merges northern Thai traditions with sustainability amid the picturesque mountains of Chiang Rai.
The camp comprises 10 spacious safari-style tents, ranging from family accommodations to romantic one-bedroom suites, all featuring private bathrooms and handcrafted teak furniture designed to coexist with nature.
Situated just 40 minutes from Chiang Rai International Airport, this tranquil boutique retreat provides a variety of meaningful experiences, including trekking, cooking lessons, tree-planting activities, and meditation, aimed at fostering a deep connection to the local culture and environment.
Set to exemplify Dusit’s Tree of Life initiative, which incorporates environmental stewardship and community engagement according to UN Sustainable Development Goals, the camp plays a pivotal role in promoting responsible tourism that benefits the local community and environment.
A significant aspect of this commitment is the camp’s partnership with Sunflower Organic Farm, a shelter for girls operated by Friends of Thai Daughters, providing education, safe housing, and emotional support to at-risk ethnic minority hill tribe girls. Dusit is committed to supporting these girls through training and workshops organized by Dusit Hospitality Education.
Visitors are welcomed to tour the farm that supplies fresh produce, herbs, and eggs to the camp. The dining experience includes dishes made from locally sourced ingredients at the Reu Doo Gaan restaurant, offering authentic northern Thai cuisine alongside international favorites.
“Managing Tantawan Tented Camp offers us a remarkable opportunity to realize our Tree of Life vision outside our branded properties and showcase our commitment to making a positive impact wherever we operate,” stated Gilles Cretallaz. “From sourcing food directly to providing education for girls, this property illustrates how sustainability and hospitality can align.”
Tantawan Tented Camp is equipped with numerous amenities, including a central swimming pool surrounded by palms, and an outdoor amphitheater for movie nights under the stars. Adventurous guests can partake in activities like archery and visiting nearby elephant sanctuaries.
Families will enjoy diverse creative pursuits, such as pottery, glass painting, and the traditional craft of creating ‘Tung’ banners used in Lanna culture.
This camp joins a growing portfolio of unique properties managed by Dusit across Thailand, each benefitting from the group’s hospitality standards while preserving a distinct identity.
