Air transport technologies provider SITA and Cathay Pacific announced a new agreement aimed at significantly increasing network bandwidth at its airports. This collaboration is expected to enhance current capacity by up to five times while remaining cost-effective.
This initiative aligns with Cathay Pacific’s strategic direction to boost cloud application adoption while ensuring optimal performance for legacy systems.
SITA President for the Asia Pacific, Sumesh Patel stated, “This agreement with Cathay Pacific showcases our ability to assist airlines in maximizing their network infrastructures, which are critical for ongoing operations.” He emphasized the importance of SITA’s technology in delivering valuable results, especially as airlines and airport networks in APAC battle challenges with outdated network infrastructure.
Shifting to a new technology: Cathay Pacific, an early adopter of the original SITA Connect solution, has shown continued confidence in SITA with this renewed agreement, moving to the newly launched SITA Connect Go service.
This new partnership will provide enhanced network connectivity across 51 global airports using the SITA Connect Go at Airports product, featuring dual internet connectivity with bandwidth reaching up to 300 Mbps.
The contract includes a projected 12-month period for design, build, testing, and implementation which will affect all involved airports.
What does SITA Connect Go do? SITA Connect Go will allow for an increase in bandwidth of up to five times current capacities, which is crucial for enhancing operational efficiency while optimizing costs. This infrastructure will also support the transitional needs of Cathay Pacific as it implements cloud applications, maintaining efficiency and scalability.
**According to Rajeev Nair, Cathay Pacific’s General Manager for IT Infrastructure and Security, “The global need for robust airport infrastructure drives us to enhance passenger experience. Our long-standing collaboration with SITA has proven beneficial for airport operations.”
The implementation phase, which commenced in April 2024, is projected to complete by the beginning of Q2 2025, with all 51 airports becoming fully operational by then.
