The Mercure Berau: A Gateway to Culture and Nature

Global hospitality brand Mercure has inaugurated its first hotel in the Indonesian province of East Kalimantan, known as the Mercure Berau. This new establishment is a landmark as it is the first internationally branded hotel in the area, designed to provide guests with authentic insights into the region’s rich cultural heritage and stunning natural scenery, including the famous Derawan and Maratua Islands.

Located only 20 minutes away from Kalimarau Airport, Mercure Berau caters to both business and leisure travelers. According to the hotel’s general manager, Maksum Aksan Damanik, “At Mercure Berau, we take pride in offering guests an experience that blends modern comfort with the soul of the destination. From our locally inspired design to warm service and cultural touchpoints, every detail has been thoughtfully curated to reflect the unique charm of Berau.”

Accor’s chief operating officer for Asia, Garth Simmons, added, “Indonesia continues to be a key market for Accor, and we are delighted to introduce the Mercure brand to Berau, a region filled with natural beauty and cultural significance. The opening of Mercure Berau reflects our commitment to growing sustainably in emerging destinations while offering guests a locally immersive experience led by the distinctive spirit of Mercure.”

The hotel boasts 153 stylish guest rooms and a variety of accommodation options including suites and two-story villas, each adorned with local design elements. Guests can enjoy an array of dining options at Sanggam Bistro, and the forthcoming Le 360° Rooftop Bar will offer spectacular views.

Mercure Berau also provides extensive facilities for business events, featuring five flexible meeting rooms and a ballroom that can accommodate up to 400 guests. Additionally, wellness amenities such as a fitness center and in-room spa treatments further enhance the guest experience.

Mercure Berau stands out as a perfect blend of hospitality and cultural immersion, establishing a new standard for accommodations in East Kalimantan.
