Onko Chishin Inc. Expands with Two New Properties
Onko Chishin, the renowned hospitality company known for its Michelin-recognized hotels, is adding two traditional ryokans to its esteemed collection. The IZU RETREAT by Onko Chishin is set to launch in November 2025, followed by the OTARU RETREAT by Onko Chishin in December 2025. This expansion aims to enhance opportunities for immersive travel, preserving Japan’s rich cultural heritage.
IZU RETREAT
The IZU RETREAT, located in the historic atagawa onsen town, offers expansive suites and stunning ocean views, transforming a beloved hot spring resort into a luxurious retreat featuring private onsen baths. Unique amenities include oceanfront suites equipped with private saunas and a karaoke venue celebrating Japan’s vibrant bathing culture.
The OTARU RETREAT, situated in Hokkaido’s port town, will unveil 18 rooms designed by famed architect Makoto Nakayama, enhancing its architectural charm while offering therapeutic sodium-calcium chloride hot springs.
According to Tomoki Matsuyama, “We don’t just renovate; we discover the unseen aspects and honor them. Each establishment serves as a showcase for its locale. Our philosophy, Onko Chishin, drawn from Confucius means revisiting the past to comprehend the present. We tell Japan’s secrets to the world.”
These advancements align with current luxury travel trends that favor authentic cultural experiences, promoting regional destinations as attractive gateways from major cities in Japan.
