Abercrombie & Kent Philanthropy (AKP), the non-profit division of the renowned travel group, has released its 2024 Impact Report on July 31. The report showcases an exceptional year of community support across 25 nations.
Building on over 60 years of investment in local communities established by founder Geoffrey Kent, AKP allocated £2.1 million to support over 70 projects, positively impacting around 400,000 individuals through educational, health, entrepreneurship, and environmental initiatives.
Highlights of 2024
- 6,300+ children received daily meals through school lunch programs in East Africa.
- 800+ students benefitted from newly constructed classrooms in Cambodia.
- 90 water wells have been established in Siem Reap.
- 107 LifeStraw filters set up in schools aid 108,000 students in East Africa.
- 1,667 bicycles distributed to female entrepreneurs in Uganda and Zambia.
Keith Sproule, executive director of AKP stated: “AKP’s mission is to ensure that travel creates lasting, tangible benefits in the places we visit. We believe that the best way to protect our planet’s remaining wilderness is to invest in the people who live there.”
Significant Achievements
The report discusses the remarkable results from educational support in East Africa, which not only improved attendance but also contributed to a 270% increase in student enrollment at certain schools. Furthermore, the organization invested in the construction of new educational facilities in Cambodia and initiated women’s economic independence programs in Peru and Sri Lanka via training programs.
