Increase in UK Tourist Arrivals
The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) has announced a 14% increase in arrivals from the United Kingdom during the first half of 2025, equating to 169,000 travelers. This shows a 64% recovery compared to the same period in 2018.
Remarks from HKTB
Anette Wendel-Menke, HKTB’s director for Europe, stated:
“Hong Kong itself has always been a significant draw for many travelers, boasting a unique blend of Eastern and Western cultures, world-class food and dynamic energy.” Translation: “Hong Kong has consistently attracted many travelers, showcasing a unique combination of Eastern and Western cultures, exceptional cuisine, and lively energy.”
Additionally, Wendel-Menke highlighted that 38% of the visitors were first-time travelers, marking an increase from previous years.
Factors Influencing Growth
The surge in UK visitors can be attributed to efforts by the government to promote tourism centered around culture, sports, gastronomy, nature, and major events such as Art Basel Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Rugby Sevens.
Furthermore, Hong Kong has seen numerous new establishments, including the Kai Tak Sports Park, its largest sports and entertainment venue.
Several new hotels have also recently opened, such as the Mondrian Hong Kong, Hopewell Hotel, and Dorsett Kai Tak Hong Kong. The Kimpton Hong Kong is set to launch in September 2025.
