Discover the new Thailand Green Tourism Collections aimed at promoting sustainability in the travel industry.
The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) officially launched the Thailand Green Tourism Collections, a flagship initiative under the Thailand Green Tourism for Sustainability programme. This project features 20 sustainable travel routes across ten designated Green Cities. This unique campaign advances Thailand’s commitment to the 2030 Sustainable Tourism Goals and The New Thailand Vision 2026.
Developed in collaboration with tour operators from the European Union (EU) and Thai public-private partners, the initiative signals Thailand’s readiness to meet the EU’s evolving sustainability regulations. These include the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), which will require EU companies to partner only with suppliers that demonstrate transparent, measurable sustainability performance.
According to TAT’s deputy governor for marketing, Chiravadee Khunsub: “We developed the Thailand Green Tourism Collections in direct response to shifts in the EU market. It brings together certified, credible operators across the tourism supply chain, empowering Thai businesses to stay globally competitive.”
The Collections are organized into seven categories: Green Accommodations, Attractions, Activities, Restaurants, Goods, Logistics, and Tour Operators, ensuring that each operator meets international sustainability benchmarks.
The Green Cities highlighted in this initiative are Chiang Mai, Nan, Sukhothai, Loei, Nakhon Ratchasima, Bangkok, Trat, Krabi, Phang-Nga, and Surat Thani.
To promote local engagement, the TAT also initiated the Green Mayor program in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Krabi, embedding sustainability at the municipal level.
Natthapong Meepokakij, director of Chom Thong District, said: “As Green Mayor, I see this as a real opportunity to improve quality of life sustainably.”
The official launch event featured a journey exploring Bangkok’s sustainable travel routes and signals Thailand’s readiness to introduce this initiative globally at WTM London 2025, underscoring its commitment to sustainability in tourism.
