Bhutan Embraces Cryptocurrency in Travel Through Binance Pay

Bhutan has officially partnered with Binance Pay to allow cryptocurrency transactions for travelers, marking a significant step in modernizing its tourism sector.

Cryptocurrency may still be the coin of the future for many nations, but the mountain kingdom of Bhutan is now seeing cryptocurrency as a payment option for travelers through its partnership with Binance Pay.
Last month, Binance’s chief executive Richard Teng was in Bhutan for the official partnership launch. Meanwhile, a group of international influencers from key markets traveled to Bhutan to experience Binance Pay and explore its potential in facilitating cashless transactions.
This group will use only their Binance Pay wallets while touring Bhutan, with curated itineraries showcasing the kingdom’s luxury lodges, family-run farmstays, Buddhist monuments, handicraft markets, cafes, and off-the-beaten-path adventures.

The Future is Here

Since the announcement of the Binance Pay partnership in May 2025, Bhutan has seen a tenfold increase in crypto-enabled merchants, growing from 100 to over 1,000 today. Visitors can now utilize cryptocurrency for nearly all aspects of their journey, making Bhutan one of the most crypto-accessible destinations globally.
Teng stated, “This remarkable progress reflects Bhutan’s openness to innovation and its people’s readiness to embrace new possibilities. This is not just about numbers; it’s about building an ecosystem where technology empowers people, connects communities, and enhances everyday experiences.”
This partnership also spotlights Bhutan’s bold approach to tourism innovation, merging technology with cultural authenticity to create seamless travel experiences. This initiative supports Bhutan’s broader goals of financial inclusion, rural upliftment, and tourism diversification.
