An overview of TeamLease's report on employment trends in India's travel and hospitality industry, highlighting the potential for job growth and emerging opportunities.

In the latest Employment Outlook Report released by TeamLease Services, it’s noted that the travel and hospitality sector in India is set to experience an 8.2% growth in job opportunities during the second half of FY2024-25.

Key Highlights

  • 66% of surveyed companies intend to expand their workforce, indicating rising job prospects.
  • Growth factors include smart tourism technologies, a resurgence in MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions), and a strong focus on sustainable practices.

The report outlines the significant economic contribution of the travel sector, which accounted for 9% of India’s GDP in 2024, translating to over $11 trillion, reflecting a 12% increase from the previous year. Notably, the interest in domestic travel, particularly to tier-2 and tier-3 cities, is growing, driven by new government initiatives aimed at enhancing regional connectivity and tourism infrastructure.

Hiring Trends

The report emphasizes a high demand for talent in sales (76%), followed by marketing and IT roles. Cities like Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Ahmedabad are leading in hiring, with smaller cities like Coimbatore and Visakhapatnam also emerging as significant job hubs.

“The positive hiring intent by 66% of the companies we’re seeing in the travel and hospitality sector tells a compelling story about how the industry is evolving. Businesses are gearing up to meet the demands of today’s eco-conscious and experience-driven travellers.” — Balasubramanian A.
