Harbin's Summer Music Festival Enchants with Varied Cultural Selections

The Harbin Summer Music Festival showcases a blend of traditional and modern musical talents, aiming to integrate global cultures.

The 37th Harbin Summer Music Festival

Co-hosted by China’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Harbin municipal government, the Harbin Summer Music Festival opened on June 27, 2025. This festival offers locals and visitors a chance to enjoy both traditional and contemporary music, continuing until September.

Currently, the festival features seven sections, including the opening shows, national performances, and the Capital of East Asian Culture art festival. Additionally, it hosts three international competitions: the 2025 Schoenfeld International String Competition, the 20th World Saxophone Congress, and the 7th Harbin International Accordion Art Week.

At present, approximately 79 themed performances from Chinese and international artists are underway, along with over 3,000 scheduled activities for public enjoyment.

Integrating Global Cultures through Music

Harbin, recognized as a birthplace of modern Chinese music and the capital of Heilongjiang Province, is showcasing diverse cultures through this festival. As stated by WFIMC President Peter Paul Kainrath, “With an almost century-long musical history interweaving oriental and western cultures, Harbin possesses a captivating allure and unique charm.” He expressed hope that the WFIMC’s annual meeting in Harbin will strengthen friendly relations among Harbin and other Chinese cities, fostering dialogue and collaboration across various sectors.
