Philippine Airlines to Acquire First A350-1000 Aircraft

Philippine Airlines enhances its fleet with the acquisition of nine A350-1000 jets as part of its modernisation efforts.

Philippine Airlines recently confirmed that its initial A350-1000 aircraft is currently under production at Airbus’s facility in Toulouse, France.

The acquisition of these aircraft is an integral part of the airline’s modernisation strategy.

According to PAL president Richard Nuttall: “We are excited to provide a preview of our first A350-1000. We anticipate taking possession of the aircraft in Q4 of 2025. This significant addition will enhance our passenger capacity and affirm our dedication to providing world-class service.”

Meanwhile, Executive Vice-President and COO Carlos Luis Fernandez indicated that this new aircraft is crucial for the airline’s strategy.

Fernandez stated: “The choice of the A350-1000 enables us to align capacity with market demand effectively. This next-generation aircraft is pivotal in addressing our expanding customer base, both regionally and globally.”

A Game-Changing Selection

The A350-1000 signifies a transformative step in the evolution of PAL’s long-haul transpacific services.

Equipped with Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97 engines, the aircraft boasts a range of up to 16,100 kilometers, facilitating ultra-long-haul flights with enhanced fuel efficiency and reduced carbon impact.

Each A350-1000 is designed to seat 382 passengers across three classes: Business, Premium Economy, and Economy.

Currently, the five main sections of the aircraft—encompassing the nose, forward fuselage, center fuselage, rear section, and wings—are in the assembly phase, preparing for systems integration such as electrical work, plumbing, and air handling.

Post-assembly, these sections will be transported to the final assembly line for the installation of sophisticated onboard systems, ducting, and wiring.

Airbus rigorously checks quality standards throughout the assembly to ensure that each aircraft adheres to high specifications.

The remaining eight A350-1000 aircraft are expected to be produced and delivered to Philippine Airlines between 2026 and 2028.
